Farm Life

The farmstand and bulk food room is open this afternoon (April 1, 2023) from 12:30- 5 PM. We have our normal selection of late winter vegetables and bulk food. My wife is baking bread this morning. The garlic that we planted last fall is up and growing (outdoors) and the greenhouse is filling with new life.
One aspect of farm life and management has to do with having a thoughtful mix of enterprises that give enough employment through out the whole year without too serious overload at any time. During the slack times of the year everything that can be done now should be done right away so that during moments of peak load one is not slowed by maintenance etc. that could have been anticipated. Our land base includes a fair amount of woodland that we manage for various uses including firewood and timber production. Parts are managed as sugar bushes and of course there are the environmental and recreational aspects. There is a sense that in the woods we are still farmers nurturing specific young trees for visions that are long into the future. The cold part of the winter is when most of the actual wood cutting is done and then during mud season attention is focused on the actual sawmilling of the logs. This last week I cut a pile of hardwood logs. Some of this lumber is planned for building a nice honey house and place to overwinter bees. We ended up with quite a bit more wood than we have use for so we have a few thousand BF hardwood lumber for sale @ $.75- $1 BF along with assorted wide life edge planks($40 each) Chose from hard maple, basswood, ash, cherry, hickory and butternut. Freshly peeled garlic and homemade bread

The farmstand and bulk food room is open this afternoon (March 18, 2023) from 12:30- 5 PM. We have our normal selection of late winter vegetables and bulk food. My wife is baking bread this morning and I peeled a batch of garlic that is available fresh on the stand today. Roasted or fried garlic with a bit of butter or oil goes really good with fresh bread. Fresh Bread

The farmstand is open this afternoon (March 11,2023) from 12:30- 5 PM. There is still a good stock of the normal late winter vegetables such as potatoes (Irish and sweet), beets, carrots, onions and garlic. The bulk food room is restocked again with flour, sugar, oatmeal etc. One thing of note is that there are NO PRICE INCREASES. A highlight for today is that we have fresh bread baking which will be available this afternoon. They are mixing a white sourdough bread and the normal honey wheat bread. ( priced @ $5 per loaf.) Not today but soon we will be also baking a few other things such as cookies. The baking is a joint projct between my daughter Rebecca and my son Joshua with the help and mentorship of my beautiful and capable wife Mendy. The plan is to be baking every Saturday during the late winter- early spring. When the stand opens with summer hours the baking days will change. In the greenhouse we planted about 70,000 onion seeds about two weeks ago. They are up and growing nicely along with the other normal early things. Soon this snow will go away and after a bit of mud season there should be spring, green grass and asparagus. When summer hours resume this spring we will not be open on Mondays. Summer stand Hours will be Tuesday- Saturday from 10 am- 6 pm. We have judged that as a family that we want a two day weekend. Daniel

More Cabbage

Hello on this beautiful sparkly, glittering morning. The ice is wonderful in its own way (I do also enjoy when it melts) The farm stand will be open this afternoon from 12:30- 5 pm. Mosie Keim still had some of his good, sweet organic cabbage in his cellar so I brought about 45 heads to the stand. We ate one head yesterday. It was delicious. During the winter we are open every Saturday afternoon from 12:30 till 5 pm. Summer hours resume in early May when asparagus is ready. Daniel

The Farm Stand is Open Tomorrow

The farm stand is open tomorrow (Saturday, Feb 11) from 12:30 till 5 pm. Come to us for a selection of the normal winter veggies and bulk foods. The display cooler will have, beets, apples, potatoes, garlic, onions, sweet potatoes, carrots and more. The list below is only part of what is available. During the winter we are open every Saturday afternoon from 12:30 till 5 pm. Summer hours resume in early May when asparagus is ready. It is still wintery weather however May and asparagus will be here in about 3 months. This week the boys got thousands of taps out into the maple sugar bush. The first set of tomato seedlings are out of the ground and about 2 inches tall. Daniel

Last open days for the year is this week!

The farmstand is open this week on Thursday and Friday afternoon (December 22 and 23) from 12:30- 5 pm. We will NOT be open on Saturday December 24th. Now is the time to stock up on all your hardy winter vegetable needs such as potatoes, garlic, onions, shallots, beets, sweet potatoes, carrots and parsnips. I peeled about a bushel of garlic this evening so there is lots of garlic waiting to make you as healthy as you can be as we go into winter. We also have it with the skins on if you prefer. After this week the stand is completely closed until after the New Year. We plan to be open every Saturday afternoon through the cold part of the winter starting on Saturday January 7, 2023. Be well. Leeks and Potatoes,Farm stand open Tomorrow

The farmstand is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week from 12:30 pm to 5 pm.
I just peeled another bucket of fresh garlic and started to set the stand in order for the market tomorrow. Besides all the things listed below there are various grains, spices and other bulk food here. Come and get it.

Peeled Garlic and free Brussels Sprouts, Stand is open today.

The farmstand is open today, tomorrow and Saturday this week from 12:30pm to 5 pm. We have lots of garlic left and I have the peeler set up to run now. We have a sale for the next three weeks on peeled garlic with the price the same as unpeeled garlic ($7.99/# or 10 lbs for $60) We have about 50 lbs of brussel sprouts left plus a few more in the field. Some of them are damaged from freezing and some are good however until they are cut open it is hard to tell if they are good. I am giving all remaining brussel sprouts away for free today to anyone that wants them on a first come basis. There is a lot of good there but it is more work to get them ready to serve. The bulk food room is stocked up and there are lots of all sorts of storage vegetables. Come and get it!

Farm stand Open Monday-Wednesday

The farmstand is open this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (10 am-6 pm) We have lots of food to complete your Thanksgiving and winter storage shopping such as sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, garlic, onions, bulk foods and much more. Come and get it. We will open again in December. (Thursday- Saturday from 12:30 pm- 5 pm)

Leeks and Brussel Sprouts

It is snowy outside but the stand is still well stocked with lots of storage crops and the hardy late fall vegetables such as sweet potatoes, garlic, kale, carrots and beets. We are somewhat overstocked with both Brussel sprouts, carrots, and leeks. The bulk food room has grains and other supplies for your winter baking needs.

We plan to be open over the winter with the following schedule
Now till Nov 23, we are open normal summer hours. Closed Thanksgiving day. From Dec 1st till Dec 23 we are open Thursday- Saturday 12:30- 5 PM. After New Year till spring we plan to be open Saturday afternoons 12:30- 5 PM (Call ahead if weather is severe). Daniel
